# Running the Gold Coast Marathon from Surfers Paradise

> The ASICS Gold Coast Marathon runs 4 and 5 July 2026. The course traces the coast through Surfers Paradise, twice. Here's why a 180-square-metre apartment with a sea breeze, a sauna and quiet hours from 9 pm is the right base for runners and the people travelling with them.

The **ASICS Gold Coast Marathon** is the fastest road marathon in Australia: pancake-flat, dry winter air, around **60% of runners setting a personal best** every year. For the 2026 edition on **4 and 5 July**, where you sleep on Saturday night shapes the whole race. Surfers Paradise away from the Cavill strip is the quiet answer; a 180-square-metre apartment with a full kitchen, two bathrooms, a heated saltwater pool and 9 pm quiet hours is the practical version of it.

## The weekend in shape

- **Saturday 4 July.** Half Marathon, 10 km, short-distance and wheelchair races. Race-pack collection at the Broadwater Parklands expo is compulsory.
- **Sunday 5 July.** **Marathon (42.195 km)** and **Wheelchair Marathon**, **6:15 am** start from Broadwater Parklands, Marine Parade, Southport. Same finish.

Full program, pace charts and the current course map at [goldcoastmarathon.com.au](https://goldcoastmarathon.com.au/). The course is an out-and-back from Southport through Main Beach, Surfers Paradise and Broadbeach.

## Where the course goes, and why it matters here

The 2026 map publishes closer to the event, but the shape has been consistent: out from Broadwater Parklands at 6:15 am, across the Nerang River into Main Beach, south along the coastal road through Surfers and Broadbeach, then back. The course passes the front of Surfers Paradise both ways. Verify the published map before committing to a spectator spot.

For support crews staying at Marriner Views, that means two chances to see the runner go past from a short walk away, then a tram down to the finish in Southport. No taxi, no parking, no crowd surge.

For runners, it means the last thing you do before the race and the first thing you do after is move on flat ground with a Pacific sea breeze. On a 42.195-kilometre morning, that compounds.

## Why this stretch of Surfers is the runner's pick

Cavill Avenue accommodation sits closer to the tram, but the strip is loud on a Saturday night and a 4 am alarm doesn't reward that. Fern Street is a kilometre and a half south of Cavill, the quieter end between Surfers and Broadbeach. Same coast, same light-rail line, none of the late-night noise.

From Marriner Views:

- **About 6 km to the start line** at Broadwater Parklands. A 12-minute drive, or one short **G:link** ride with no transfers. Florida Gardens station is 750 metres from the door, 9 minutes on foot. Translink usually publishes an expanded race-morning schedule on ridetheg.com.au.
- **Fully equipped kitchens.** Pre-race dinner on the balcony, on your timing, exactly the pasta you want. Breakfast before dawn without hunting for an open cafe.
- **Heated saltwater pool** at 26°C, **large heated spa**, **sauna**, **steam room**. Useful the afternoon after, and on either side for shake-outs.
- **Two full bathrooms** per apartment. No queue when two runners are home.
- **180-square-metre apartments**, two per floor. The 4 am alarm doesn't wake the room.
- **Quiet hours from 9 pm**, strict no-party policy. You get the sleep you booked for.
- **Complimentary undercover parking**, one space per apartment, useful if driving in from Brisbane.

## After the race

The Northcliffe foreshore is a comfortable place for a support crew to set up with a coffee and watch the field come past, then catch the tram south to pick the runner up at Broadbeach or carry on to the Southport finish.

Sauna and steam room handle the post-race soreness; the pool is there for Monday's cool-down swim when the legs don't want to run. Dual-aspect cross-breeze through the apartment means windows open and a still night for sleeping. Broadbeach is fifteen minutes south on foot for a slow Sunday lunch; if the runner wants to collapse on the couch, the kitchen and delivery apps cover the evening.

## Booking windows

Entries, pricing tiers and the 2026 deadline are on the [ASICS Gold Coast Marathon](https://goldcoastmarathon.com.au/) site; enter there before booking anything else. Accommodation within walking distance of the tram fills well ahead, and Marriner Views runs only two apartments per floor, so inventory is small. Book as soon as your entry confirms.

A Thursday-to-Monday stay sits cleanly against the race: Friday expo and shake-out, Saturday for the half or 10 km, Sunday for the marathon, Monday for a slow coffee and a walk on the sand before the flight home.
