Country music across a whole suburb, more than a dozen open-air stages, and no gate to pay at: the Groundwater Country Music Festival takes over Broadbeach on 16, 17 and 18 October 2026. More than 60,000 people came through in 2025, the organisers estimate a $15 million lift to the local economy, and 2026 is the thirteenth edition. Entry is free, and it is the sort of weekend where the base you come home to counts for as much as the music.
That is where Fern Street makes its case. Marriner Views gives a group the one thing most of Surfers Paradise cannot: room. The apartments run to 180 square metres, only two to a floor, laid out so a sea breeze crosses from one side to the other, each with a private balcony. Come back from a day on the grass and there is space to spread six or seven people out, not a hotel room with the beds pushed together.
What the weekend actually is
Groundwater is run by Experience Gold Coast with support from the Queensland Government, and it runs unlike most festivals: rather than one ticketed arena, it uses Broadbeach itself. Stages appear in parks, on the pedestrian mall along Victoria Avenue, down the boulevard, and inside a long list of pubs. The 2025 lineup spanned 14 stages and more than 40 artists; the 2026 program is announced in the lead-up to October. The official site and the festival app carry the live program, the precinct map and the set times stage by stage.
It is a genuinely all-ages weekend. The daytime stages run for everyone, and around the music sit a Sunday bluegrass breakfast, the Farm Angels charity tent at Kurrawa Park, country cocktails on the mall, and line-dancing lessons for beginners on the Beach Deck. Bring the kids without a second thought.
The beach route, no tram needed
Marriner sits between Surfers Paradise and Broadbeach, and the festival precinct starts where one becomes the other, about 450 metres south of the front door. The easiest way in is the one with no timetable: down to the foreshore and south along the sand, six minutes or so on flat ground, into the northern edge of the Broadbeach festival precinct without a road to cross. No tram, no car park, no wait.
The G:link is the wet-weather fallback. Florida Gardens station is 750 metres from the door, and from there it is a stop or two south to Broadbeach North, the festival’s official drop-off. On a clear October morning, though, the beach walk wins on every count.
Where the stages sit
Four stages anchor a program that spreads much wider. The Kurrawa Big Top is the main outdoor stage at the northern end of Kurrawa Park, mostly under cover on flat grass. The Broadbeach Mall Stage suits a long lunch with music in the background; Surf Parade, one street back, is the evening row that draws the biggest Saturday-night crowd; the Oracle Boulevard stage marks the southern edge. The festival app holds the per-day schedule and any late changes.
A basecamp built for a group
The reason to book this side of Broadbeach is plain: 180 square metres, only two apartments per floor, a beach walk from the precinct.

Views vary by apartment: floors 17 and up look over the ocean, with the 19th-floor three-bedroom the headline, and the first-floor three-bedroom is pool-side rather than ocean-facing. It changes nothing about the festival weekend, but it is the question guests ask most.

16 to 18 October 2026. Check-in is 2 to 5 pm, with late check-in arranged in advance. A Thursday-to-Monday booking gives the group an unhurried arrival, the full run of festival days, and a slow Monday on the balcony once the precinct is packed away and the suburb is quiet again.
